The Aided College Teachers’ Association (ACTA) has been established first at Tiruchirappalli, the Rock Fort City and registered in the year 1995. Then the new units have been formed at Thanjavur, Chennai, Erode, Coimbatore and Vellore Zones. The ACTA has been established and expanded based on certain organizational factors experienced in common by all these newly formed units. All these newly formed units have earlier experienced and have been affected by the stifling of the democratic voices, the differential treatment of members and issues, the curtailment of the individual rights of members and above all the manipulation of electoral politics. The founding leaders of ACTA have taken all precautionary steps to ensure a better democratic framework in the newly formed Association so that all those negative factors do not find a place in the ACTA. A careful analysis of the Bye-Laws of ACTA will prove the presence of this democratic framework of the Association.
The founding leaders of ACTA have possessed a broader vision in evolving the programmes of action for the Association. This broader vision has accomplished a multi focus on the democratic rights, the academic excellence and the social concern. Right from the inception the ACTA has a pronounced policy of organising struggles and movements in achieving our genuine demands and legitimate rights in the established democratic modes.
The academic excellence is aimed at not only in better teaching and quality research but also in other academic endeavours. One such significant endeavour has been the Book Writing camps organised in collaboration with the publishers of international repute. These Book Writing camps have brought to light the creative acumen of the teachers. Many talented teachers have participated in this Book Writing camps and their books have been prescribed as part of the syllabus by the renowned Universities and the reputed Autonomous Colleges.
